Chiefs aim for three Classic Points

A Kaizer Chiefs starting eleven made up of five changes from the Chiefs team that narrowly defeated City Pillars in an ABSA Cup game eight days ago, will do duty for The Amakhosi as they taken on relegation threatened Classic at the Kings Park Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Chiefs faithful supporters in Durban and surrounds have once again come out in large numbers and began filling the stadium more than two hours before kick off, as an 18 000 strong crowd prepare to spur Chiefs on to what can only be described as much needed three points.

Ernst Middendorp has once kept faith with Emile Baron between the sticks and has called back into action the central defensive partner of Jimmy Tau and Fabian McCarthy who missed the Pillars came through suspension and a bout of flu respectively. There are also starts for midfielder Gert Schalkwyk who was unavailable for the ABSA Cup Match as he was recovering from a hamstring injury. Derrick Spencer returns from a family bereavement to take his place in defense, David Radebe replaces Kaizer Motaung Junior up front as he partners Louis Agyemang in what looks like a very attack minded formation from Ernst Middendorp.

Chiefs coach Middendorp appealed to the Chiefs supporters to come out in their numbers and support the Amakhosi as the seasons nears the climax, prior to kick off the coach was buoyed by the site of thousands of vociferous Chiefs supporters in the Kings Park Soccer Stadium. Prompting him to comment “we have four very important games left and the supporters are playing their part in lifting us to victory”.

The Chiefs technical team have made a surprise omission from Sunday’s line up as Arthur Zwane who started in all of Chiefs games in 2006, sits this one out and will have to watch from the substitute’s bench. Zwane is in good company on the sidelines as he is joined on the bench by Scara Ngobese the Chiefs play maker returns to the team after a three week absence he was last in action when Chiefs defeated Super Sport United in an ABSA Cup game in early March.

The Amakhosi’s host on Sunday Afternoon have left out former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana midfielder Steve Lekoelea as well as their usually reliable goals scorer Collen Zimba, both of whom start Sunday’s game from the bench. Up front coach Mlungisi Ngubane has opted for the experience of Bradley August the former Ajax Cape Town striker and former Chiefs front man Kabamba Mussasa.
