Chiefs aim for Premier Cup glory

The Kaizer Chiefs Under-15 team will line up with other PSL sides - Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, Bidvest Wits, Silver Stars, Supersport United, Jomo Cosmos, Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns – in the 2007 Manchester United Premier Cup, to be played at the SAFA Development Centre in Pimville, Soweto this weekend.



During the lunch hour on Saturday spectators will have the opportunity to win some awesome prizes in the skills competition. The competition will test the skills of juggling, shooting, dribbling and passing.



Football fanatics between the ages of 15 and 17, who want to test their skills, must register at the Skills Competition gazebo before 10.00. Spaces are limited to 30 people, so it’s important to get their early to book a place.



The entrance is free on both days and the gates will open early. Kickoff starts at 10.00 each day.



The winner of the Manchester United Premier Cup will represent South Africa, and the continent of Africa, at the Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals.



The Local Finals are being hosted by Nike, SAFA Soweto and the Gauteng Provincial Government.



The 16 teams are divided in four groups, with Chiefs draw alongside a team from the School of Excellence, Maritzburg United and Zola Lazio in Group D. The top teams from each group will contest the semi-finals and finals on Sunday.



Group A:
Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, Bidvest Wits and Silver Stars.



Group B:
Supersport United, Kempton Park, Jomo Cosmos and Westville United.



Group C:
Africa Sport, Arcadia Shepherds, Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns.



Group D:
School of Excellence, Zola Lazio, Maritzburg Unite and Kaizer Chiefs.



Teams that have represented South Africa at the Manchester United Premier Cup in the past include Remember FC (1999), Ajax Cape Town (2000/2001), Orlando Pirates (2002), Kaizer Chiefs (2004), Moroka Swallows (2005) and Orlando Pirates (2006).
