League defending champions Kaizer Chiefs had their under-17 development central defender Lawrence Tlou Molekwane, making some history on Tuesday, 22 February 2005 when he joined veterans like Brian Baloyi at the Bafana Bafana camp that’s preparing for the Cosafa Preliminary tournament against countries like Seychelles and Madagascar with the games to be played in Mauritius this coming weekend.

The Polokwane born Molekwane, has already represented South Africa at the Under 17 Caf Cup qualifiers earlier this year when SA defeated Sudan 5-0 at the Soccer City stadium in the first leg and again routed the Sudanese 3-0 in Khartoum in the second leg on January 9 and 20 consecutively.

Commenting on behalf of his development coach Floyd Mogale, on Molekwane’s Bafana Bafana call up, coach of the Kaizer Chiefs under-19 Johannes “Ryder” Mofokeng said he was sure the experience will open the youngster’s mind in many ways.

“This is great for Tlou (Molekwane) and even if he does not get to play, just the feeling of being there with some of the experienced Bafana players who he has always looked up to, will be awesome.

“I guess this is the right way to begin incorporating youngsters on our way to 2010,” said Mofokeng. “He will surely learn something and we wish him all the best.”

The 1.7m tall Molekwane is among many Kaizer Chiefs youngsters who play in the national under-17, including his captain at Naturena, Bandile Kiviets who’s also a central defender, Bamuse Kololo, another talented midfielder and Sbusiso Msomi a right winger.

Molekwane has been called up among other Chiefs players like dribbling wizard Junior Khanye and reserve goalkeeper Tlali Mathibe.
