The annual Telkom Charity Cup, the four-team tournament played in one day, was officially launched in Johannesburg on Monday.

You can only enter the vote and competition lines from a Telkom telephone. Dial your favourite team’s number (086 22 33 166) and follow the voice prompts.

You can also vote by SMS (Vodacom and MTN subscribers only). Send your team’s number or name to 34709 as the message.

The more you call, the better your team’s chances of being selected, so vote as often as you like.

Voting closes promptly at midnight July 23, 2004, the stats on this site will not be updated after 20h00 on July 21.

The country’s votes will be updated hourly and you’ll be able to track your team’s progress on this site. The votes are entered onto a secure server, so you can rest assured that all results are legitimate and untampered. Only the top four teams go through to play in the Charity Cup.

The tournament happens on July 31, 2004 at FNB Stadium. The four teams will battle it out in a knockout format, with the finals being held later on in the day.

The aim of the tournament is to raise as much money for charity as possible. Monies collected from the telephone voting and gate fees will be combined. Over R2 million was raised from last year's Telkom Charity Cup and cheques of R40 000 each has been given to 50 charity organisations.
