Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows have come to an agreement for the transfer of Chiefs Zambian international striker Songwe Chalwe who will leave Naturena and join the Dube birds at the end of June.

The terms agreed upon by The Amakhosi and Swallows are conditional and will depend on whether or not Chalwe will pass a medical test when he returns back to South Africa towards the end of June.

Chalwe who made his debut for the Amakhosi in January 2005 scored on debut when Chiefs triumphed 3-0 over Jomo Cosmos, he then picked up an injury and missed the remainder of the 2004 – 2005 season. Songwe was on target for Chiefs on the opening of the 2005 – 2006 when his goal gave Chiefs a 1-0 victory against Bush Bucks, which signalled a winning start to the season for the Amakhosi.

He was able to find the net two more times this past season and it was felt by coach Ernst Middendorp that Songwe was not competing at his best and that Chiefs needed to find a new target man up front.

Commenting on Chalwe’s imminent departure Ernst Middendorp said “I felt that Songwe at times was brilliant for the most part he did not deliver the goods. Moving to Swallows will be a move in the right direction for him and with us signing Shaun Bartlett - he probably would not have seen much action, I hope he does well at Swallows”.

In other transfer news, Chiefs have agreed the terms of a loan agreement with Bidvest Wits University who want the services of Chiefs midfielder Rene Richards for a season. The club are waiting for Rene to agree to the deal before it can be finalized.

Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp is of the opinion that a season away from Chiefs where he will see regular game time will help uplift his game.
