Chairmen get into Soweto derby spirit

It was the perfect Soweto Derby as the kick off was on time both sets of teams gave it their all, most of all there were no bookings and plenty of goals, as well as the fact that the match was played in front of a capacity crowd three times the size of the one that will be at the ABSA Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon.

Like Saturday’s Derby the one I am making reference to was played no where close to Johannesburg or South Africa, it happened at FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona Spain.

In reality it was a game that actually took place in the Cyber World, when on Friday morning Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung and his opposite number from Orlando Pirates Dr. Irvin Khoza had a go at each other at the media centre at the ICC in Durban where the preliminary draw for the 2010 Fifa World Cup will be taking place on Sunday. What kind of a go was it well they challenged each other in the new Fifa 08 game on the SONY Play Station 3, they were watched on by amongst other 2010 Fifa World Cup CEO Danny Jordaan.

It is not often that the two men who spend most of their time running the two biggest clubs in the country have the opportunity to take part in these kinds of recreational activities, but they seemed to enjoy getting to grips with the play station and were easily convinced that battling it out in cyber space is the way to go.

For once both sets of coaches Muhsin Ertugral and Owen Da Gama could have no qualms about the Chairmen interfering in team selection and the like, photographer Gavin Barker was on hand to capture the two chairmen enjoying themselves in some rare free time and said.

“A lot of people in the media hall were surprised to see them playing on the play station and they drew quite a big crowd around them”.

With he first Chiefs and Pirates clash for the weekend out of the way it is now the small challenge of a match at 15h30 on Saturday afternoon at the ABSA Stadium in Durban.
