Branch of the Year Site C to host Amakhosi

The award-winning Site C supporters’ branch from Khayelitsha, Cape Town will host the Kaizer Chiefs travelling entourage at the Chris Hani Hall, Khayelitsha on Saturday, September 27 from 16H30, in a bid to introduce the Amakhosi players to the Khayelitsha community. Amakhosi are on their way to Cape Town to play their away Castle Premiership fixture against Hellenic at Athlone stadium on Sunday afternoon.

This visit will be characterized by the presence of the Noluthando Private School and Home for Mentally Handicapped Children, based in Khayelitsha. Community members are requested to donate some money towards this charity organization whose needs vary from foodstuff, clothing, day to day running expenses and other logistics. This initiative is the brainchild of the leadership of the Site C supporters’ branch.

"We are very touched by this noble innovation from our supporters and it will be a historical event in South African football supporters’ structures to have supporters hosting their team with a view to help the needy. It is part of our philosophy to educate and encourage supporters to embrace the helpless members of our society and this is, surely in line with our slogan of Love and Peace," said club spokesperson Putco Mafani, ahead of the team’s departure for Cape Town.

In true fashion as it is always spoken about this move is being interpreted in sport circles though the Western Cape as the real meaning of ‘taking the club to the people’ as people always talk. Members of the public will be expected to respond positively to the call of donating money to the home of the handicapped children whether by giving hard cash, blankets or anything to alleviate the plight of the children at the charity.

Donations should vary from R50 to R100, R20 or even the lowest R5 to assist the cause. In typical church style these donations will be collected like offerings at the entrance of the venue on Saturday afternoon.

Mafani is expected to address the public and the supporters and also introduce the entire touring team from Naturena, together with club captain Brian Baloyi making a brief speech on behalf of the players.

These will be preceded by prayers from the local religious leaders and words from the office of the mayor in the Khayelitsha metro.
