Birthday celebrations, thank you!

Kaizer Chiefs celebrated its 34th birthday in style by defeating Hellenic on January 7 at Soccer City and would love to thank our supporters for that. Die-hard supporters of the club came from all walks of Johannesburg and beyond and some brought cakes to the game, while some were seen with posters while some had painted their faces and bodies with messages of the 34 glorious years of success.

To others it could have been an ordinary club birthday bash when Amakhosi hosted Hellenic on Wednesday but to Nooi “magogo” Ngema, it was a brace scored as she also celebrated her own birthday the same day as her favorite club, which she followed since inception, thus becoming the founder member of the supporters’ club.

“We were touched to see supporters like Saddam Maake bringing cakes and mobilising other supporters and the brass band to become involved in celebrations in that fashion.

"That surely makes us the proudest club in South Africa, to have supporters as these. We thank them unreservedly and wish them all the best for the year but a special wish goes to Magogo Ngema for all her remaining years as she still represents the passionate ladies we started with. This was surely a moment that emotionally brought back fond memories of the past and the people we started with some of whom are no longer there,” said club chairman Kaizer Motaung.

Motaung said the club is looking at bigger preparations for the 35th birthday celebrations. He said he felt very special about cutting the birthday cake in front of supporters prior to a game, something which seldom happened in the past.
