Better performance – Komphela

“This was a much better performance,” stresses coach Steve Komphela when reflecting on Amakhosi’s one-all draw against the Urban Warriors in the weekend. “We played with the same style and intensity that we demonstrated during the start of the season.”

The match was played in front of a near capacity crowd at the magnificent Cape Town Stadium. A week earlier Ajax had beaten Kaizer Chiefs to win the MTN8.

“I hope we will take this as a confidence builder going into the next match,” adds Komphela. “We know that we could have done better in terms of collecting the three maximum points, but with this performance you can’t fault anyone.”

Amakhosi played to a draw against University of Pretoria in midweek before the trip to the ‘Mother City’.

“I am pleased with the application from the players as it shows that the loss in the MTN8 final is now water under the bridge,” Komphela comments. “This match will serve as a point of reference. We now have to build on this performance for our next match.”

Chiefs will travel to Moruleng to face Platinum Stars in Telkom Knockout Last 16. The match takes place at the Moruleng Stadium on Sunday, 4 October (kick-off is at 15:00).
