Inform Kaizer Chiefs striker Shaun Bartlett trudged off the field after injuring himself inside the first five minutes of The Amakhosi’s 2-0 home loss against SuperSport United in Tshwane on Saturday evening.

The former Bafana Bafana and Charlton Athletic marksman had been in a rich vein of scoring for Chiefs recently as he had found his way onto the score sheet in five consecutive league games towards the end of 2006. Bartlett injured himself in Saturday’s game while trying to turn an opponent, as a result he twisted his knee and did damage to certain knee ligaments.



After it was deemed that he could play no further part in the game, the Chiefs striker was replaced by Louis Agyemang in the ninth minute will also miss this coming Wednesday’s game against PSL log leaders Silver Stars in Rustenburg through injury.

The Ghanaian international emerged from Saturday’s game with a quadriceps (thigh) strain and has been declared unavailable for Wednesday evening’s all-important game against Stars.



Commenting on the injuries sustained by Bartlett and Agyemang club physiotherapist David Milner said, “with regards to Shaun’s injury we have determined that he has injured knee ligaments, we will know the full extent of the injury as well as how long we envisage he will be out of competitive action for later on Monday. He does have an appointment with a specialist late Monday afternoon, and for the moment we will just to wait and hear what the specialist says”.



With regards to the injury of Louis Agyemang Milner said, “Louis suffered a thigh strain against SuperSport and he will be recovering for the rest of the week, we expecting him to miss the Silver Stars and Benoni Premier United matches.”

Milner also confirmed that Derrick Spencer, who under went an operation in November, resumed full training on Monday morning. While Spencer has made a full recovery, Milner said that Rotson Kilambe, who is tending to a swollen knee, will resume full training in a week’s time.



Along with Louis Agyemang and Shaun Bartlett Chiefs will also be without the services of influential midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi, who will sit out the Wednesdays match as he picked up his third yellow card of the season during Saturday’s game against SuperSport.

Even though he will have to shuffle his pack around for Wednesday’s game as he to contend with injuries and suspensions, Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes his team has sufficient depth to cope with their loss of personal.
