Back to business for Bhasera
Back to business for Bhasera

As the business end of the season approaches, Chiefs have not yet confirmed their spot amongst the top eight finishers, which is something that Amakhosi left back Onismor Bhasera would like to change before the month is out.

Starting this Sunday against Swallows, Bhasera would like for The Amakhosi to begin taking steps towards cementing a top-eight finish. With their focus only their remaining seven league games, Bhasera is confident of not just a place amongst the top eight but of a top-five finish as well.

For Bhasera there is also the mouth watering prospect of coming up on Sunday afternoon against the league's leading goal scorer in the form of the dangerous Swallows striker James Chamanga.

As usual

A win over Swallows and The Amakhosi could find themselves as high up as seventh in the standings, a two place improvement on their current 9th place standing. Bhasera feels that after elimination from the Nedbank Cup, redemption for Chiefs will be found by qualifying for next seasons Supa8 competition.

The Zimbabwean international said to kaizerchiefs.com “Seven potential banana skins that lay in our wake from now to the end of the season, we want to avoid slipping on either, and also the perfect way to close off this campaign will be by winning these matches”

Derby day

Bhasera furthermore spoke to kaizerchiefs.com about what playing in a derby match means: “A Chiefs/Swallows game is probably not as hyped as a Chiefs/Pirates game. It still is a derby match played against a team with whom you share a very long and extended tradition and rivalry, a game against Swallows has all the traditional ingredients of a good old fashioned Derby match. Being a derby game, you are more motivated to want to win it. In the next couple of weeks we will be playing both long-standing Soweto rivals and it would be nice to start off with a win against Swallows”.

Chamanga Challenge

Sunday’s upcoming derby against Swallows will also see the Chiefs' defense come face to face with Swallows Zambian hit man, and current chart topper as the PSL’S leading scorer with 13 goals James Chamanga. Facing Chamanga and trying to stop him is a challenge that Bhasera feels he will be up to come Sunday

“James has been a thorn in the side of many defenders this season and has the goals to prove it. For our defense we don’t really see him as a problem, actually I cannot wait to face him in so much as he finds pleasure in scoring goals. As a defender I get the same kind of joy out of ensuring that he does not get a sight of goal, we will do everything we can to ensure that we keep our goal in tact”.
