The Chiefs U-19 team were good for their 2-0 win over the team from the Botswanian capital who have used their week with out fixtures in the Botswana Premier League to travel south for a mid season training camp, and were in action earlier in the weekend against the Orlando Pirates first team on Saturday.
The Chiefs U-19 team did feature two first team players in the form of defender Sihle Mbambo and midfielder Bamose Gololo, overall the Chiefs youngsters dominated from the kick off and were not over awed by the fact that they were facing a team from Botswana’s Premier League.
Miya opener
After testing the Gaborone United keeper on a number of occasions in the first forty five minutes, The Amakhosi finally broke the deadlock close to half time and it was striker Mondli Miya who got his name on the score board.
The number thirteen dummied his past a defender before powering the ball home from some distance out, in the second half substitute Bongani Sondlani made certain of the win by popping up with ten minutes remaining to put daylight between the Chiefs U-19’s and Gaborone United.
Mofokeng pleased
Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com after his teams shining performance in the scorching heat on Sunday Ryder Mofokeng could only pronounce himself happy with the result, as well as the manner in which his team were able to out muscle Gaborone United.
Mofokeng said afterward “playing a team with players who are physically bigger was a concern to me; credit though must go to the boys who managed to play their normal game and found their rhythm easily.
We were able to string together passes and were patient in our build ups perhaps our only fault was that we should have found the back of the net one or two more times, playing against strong opposition in physical games like the Gaborone one is good experience for the guys”.
