Kaizer Chiefs have once again joined the nation in the fight against gender based violence (GBV), standing alongside countless organisations and individuals during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. This campaign, running from 25 November to 10 December each year, highlights the urgent need to combat the alarming surge in GBV, recognised as a pandemic affecting communities across South Africa.

Gender based violence represents not only a violation of human rights but also a public health crisis that demands immediate action. The statistics are staggering, with many women and children suffering in silent despair due to physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. As a prominent sporting institution, Chiefs recognise the responsibility to use their platform to advocate for change and raise awareness about this pressing issue.

In their recent initiatives – including working in collaboration with sponsors and partners, the Club has organised community outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, and engaging discussions aimed at educating fans and the broader community alike about the impact of GBV. The message is clear: GBV is not a women’s issue; it is a societal issue that requires collective action from everyone, regardless of gender or position in society.

As role models in the sporting community, when given a chance, players and officials of Kaizer Chiefs share messages of support and solidarity with victims of GBV. The Club understands that breaking the silence surrounding violence is crucial to creating a safe environment for all. We always need to preach the spirit of Ubuntu.

It is important to underscore that the fight against GBV should not be limited to a mere 16 days of activism. The reality is that every day, countless people experience violence, abuse, and fear in their homes and communities.
