Amakhosi turn attention to Ezenkosi
Amakhosi turn attention to Ezenkosi

Having suffered a slight derailment on their way towards a third successive PSL, Amakhosi have turned their attention away from Sundowns, and will be looking towards picking up the pieces and re-launching an assault on the PSL title.

Cosmos though will not be easy picking for the Amakhosi coming off the back of a hard fought midweek victory over Super Sport United. History though is on Chiefs side having been defeated on only two occasions since the start of the new millennium by Jomo Sono’s charges. One will have to go back almost five seasons to find the last time Chiefs were beaten by Cosmos, which was a 2-1 defeat back in the 2001-2002 season.

Since than Chiefs have mainly dominated their fellow Johannesburg residents, also scoring a comprehensive 3-0 victory over them when Chiefs successfully defended their PSL title in 2004-2005. Cosmos and Chiefs have met twice this season already and Ezenkosi put paid to Chiefs hopes of winning a fourth Coca-Cola Cup crown as Ezenkosi sent the crashing out of the cup. Honours were even though when the two teams clashed in a league game on the 21st September last year, Serge Djiehoua gave Chiefs an early lead only for Chris Katongo to level the scores late on.

The match is better remembered for a war of words that ensued between the two teams after the game, as Cosmos defender Andrew Rabutla sent Chiefs striker Serge Djiehoua to the operating table. With a crunching tackle that has seen the Ivorian striker sitting on the sidelines for the past five months.

Given the rivalry between the two teams and with Chiefs looking to get their title aspirations back on track after a midweek defeat to Sundowns, Cosmos wanting to have daylight between themselves and the relegation zone. Be sure to expect fire works when Chiefs take on Cosmos at the FNB Stadium on Saturday (25-02-06), kick off for the game is at 20h00 (subject to confirmation).

Tickets for the game are available at computicket outlets countrywide.
