Speaking from the club headquarters in Naturena Team Manager, Bobby Motaung said, “We are more than happy that our plans for competitive friendlies in the absence of 7 key players engaged with the Nokia Africa Cup of Nations have been going so well and this game will conclude that roadshow. We know we will be facing a very tough opponents in Township Rollers who are the most successful team in Botswana, having won the Super League 11 times and the Coca Cola Cup 5 times. That’s an incredible record and it goes to show what quality our opponents are made of”, said Motaung
The Rollers have qualified through an sms voting system that started as early as December 2003, whereby soccer fans in Botswana voted a club they felt should play the South Africans.
Organizer of the tournament, Bissau Gaobakwe is very passionate about the social responsibility theme of the Amakhosi visit, “We are glad that through the Kaizer Chiefs visit to our country, a lot of people already have responded positively towards our call to the public to have their HIV test done as early as possible.
Everything has been said and done about the seriousness of the scourge of Aids but through this event we are saying to our people the sooner you know your HIV status, the better it is and I am pleased to report that 16 Tebelelo Pele testing centers have never been this busy, always crowded by young people coming for their HIV tests.
We have set aside R100 000 worth of complimentary tickets as an incentive for those having a test and the response towards HIV testing is now phenomenal. This is why we decided to call the event the “Show you Care soccer Challenge”, and that’s basically because what you don’t know can hurt you”, said an enthusiastic Gaobakwe.
Gaobakwe said there was no better way in contributing towards the HIV Aids problem facing his country than football, the people’s sport and Kaizer Chiefs one of the best teams in Africa with a large following locally. He said some celebrities will do their HIV tests live at the stadium on the day in front of the thousands coming to watch the game.
The day will kick off with music and a curtain raiser featuring Gaborone United vs. Center Chiefs at 12H00 who came positions 2 and 3 after Township Rollers in the sms voting system. Entertainment will be provided by Stagga, Franco, Vee and Wizards of the desert.
The main game will kick-off at 4pm and tickets will be available at the Bureau de Change in Tlokweng and Lobatse Border only at P50 – for grand stand and P35 - for open stands. Gates will open at 10H00.
The event is expected to be one of the most exciting and mostly anticipated events in Botswana this year, with 2 of the biggest soccer teams facing each other in a challenge to “show they care” and promote a positive message for HIV/Aids.
