This is after Chiefs have taken a step towards aiming for their first triumph in South Africa’s premier knock out cup competition by defeating defending SuperSport United to earn themselves a date in the next round with first division outfit Polokwane based City Pillars.

Santos have produced some interesting results, most recently their 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns, a game in which the Cape side gave Sundowns a run for their money.

Their most amazing result the entire season so far has to be a 3-3 draw they played against Orlando Pirates at the Green Point Stadium earlier in the season, at one stage in the game Pirates lead 3-1. Santos did not give up and fought back to force a remarkable share of the spoils and stunned the Buccaneers.

Although Chiefs did manage the double over Santos last season, most games over the past few seasons have generally been low scoring affairs, with Chiefs just shading Santos on most occasions. For Chiefs, Wednesday night's encounter will be one in which they will have to continue with being ruthless in front of goals and take their chances early on in order to make their hosts chase the run of play.

If one delves into the history book, you will be reminded that a fixture against Santos back in the 1998 – 1999 season when the Amakhosi were defeated 4-2 by Santos, ultimately meant that they were to lose out to Sundowns in the race for the PSL crown. Chiefs will be wary of these facts and will be happier now playing the game at Newlands Stadium instead of the more windier Athlone Stadium - Santos preferred venue for home games - currently under construction.
