Amakhosi to face Santos in semis

The Amakhosi will continue the defence of the Telkom Knockout competition against Cape Town outfit Santos, the team who Chiefs defeated in the round of 16 when they won the trophy last season.



Chiefs defeated Free State Stars in their quarterfinal clash on Saturday afternoon at the Rand Stadium 2 - 0 with goals coming courtesy of Sthembiso Ngcobo, while Santos saw off Mpumalanga Black Aces 1 - 0 in their last eight game.



The teams were pitted to face each other in a draw conducted live on television at the end of the last of the Quarter - Final clashes where Maritzburg United defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 2 - 0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.



The Amakhosi will have home ground advantage for the game and Maritzburg United will host Orlando Pirates in the other semifinal, Chiefs and Santos have met on four occassions in cup competitions - three of those clashes have come in the Telkom Knockout - and all have been won by Chiefs.



During the 2009 - 2010 Telkom Knockout Chiefs hosted Santos in a round of 16 clash and needed penalties to triumph over the Capetonians, Chiefs biggest triumph in a cup game over Santos was 4 - 0 in the opening round of the 2008 - 2009 MTN 8 Competition.



A cup clash between the teams when the Telkom Knockout was still known as the Coca Cola Cup during the 2001 - 2002 season produced six goals, a game which Chiefs won 4-2.



Chiefs and Santos will be well acquainted with each other when they clash in the Cup semifinal as they will meet this coming Wednesday in a league game to be played at the Rand Stadium.



The PSL will confirm the dates and venues for the semifinals in the next few days.
