Amakhosi coach Vladimir Vermezovic is confident that with the depth available to him in his squad, Chiefs will be able to navigate past The Students without the suspended Nengomasha and Masango who is away on international duty with the South Africa u23 team.
“Mandla played in our last two games and he was excellent. He is in good shape and I hope the national u23 team utilizes him in the correct way against Libya.
Tinashe is a very important player for us and his experience is always useful,” explained Vermezovic.
The coach does feel that the players he has at his disposal will be able to do the job on Sunday.
“We have a lot of good players in this team and we have a big squad to choose from.
My philosophy is that we will be able to manage without the guys who are out”.
Chiefs played against Wits on Wednesday evening in a league game that finished 1-1 and Vermezovic feels that despite playing the same team again within the space of a few days, they need to focus on winning the game.
“It is not so hard to play a team back to back in such a short space of time but it is unusual, it is our job to face them and we have to try and not make the same mistakes we made the first time.
“We had many chances in the first game, their chances came about because of our mistakes so we will analyze that game and we will improve on Sunday.”
Despite Chiefs having a good record at the BIDVest Stadium where Sunday’s game will take place as they are unbeaten in their last four visits to the venue to face the Students, Vermezovic is not counting on history to help Chiefs but is banking on Chiefs putting up a great performance on the day.
Of this he said, “ I always try to look forward not back what has happened before is over that is history and it is not going to go on the pitch, in the last two seasons I have always said we must look ahead and our target is to reach the quarterfinals”.
