Kaizer Chiefs 0 Super Sport United 1 (9. Bucane 82 min)

Venue: FNB Stadium, Johannesburg

Date: 13 May 2006

Competition: Premier Soccer League

A Manuel Bucane goal eight minutes from time ensured that Kaizer Chiefs league campaign in 2005 – 2006 would end on a low note as SuperSport condemned Amakhosi to their fourth league defeat of the season. The game was played at a pedestrian pace throughout with neither really taking the match by the scruff of the neck in a game that really lacked much in the way of true goal scoring opportunities.

One could possibly have forgiven Chiefs for having one eye already on next week's ABSA Cup Final against Orlando Pirates scheduled for Durban, as what ever the result was going to be it was merely academic. Chiefs though did create the best chance of the game early in the first half as Thabo Mooki sent a long searching ball along the ground, which was picked up by Gerald Sibeko who out sprinted the United defense. He layed off a sweet short pass to Fabian McCarthy whose ferocious shot was blocked by SuperSport keeper Calvin Marlin.

Chiefs were presented with another great scoring opportunity in the first half when David Radebe ran onto a lose ball. After a mix up in the SuperSport defense, the Chiefs striker shot straight at Calvin Marlin. After a goalless first half Ernst Middendorp once again rang the changes at half time bringing on Gert Schalkwyk and Louis Agyemang in an attempt to finish off United.

It was not to be as Chiefs could not create any clear chances in the second half as their opposition tightened up at the back and did not give Chiefs much room to move about. In the end all it took was a few short passes by SuperSport to finish Kaizer Chiefs off. A neat lay by Khobane to Manuel Bucane to finish from close range to settle this encounter and help SuperSport climb into seventh spot on the league table as a result they qualify for next season's SAA Supa8 competition.

For Chiefs all is not lost as their season has one more Saturday in it as Amakhosi now put this game behind them as they travel to Durban to face archrivals and old foes Orlando Pirates in the ABSA Cup semi final. Chiefs will be at full strength for the final as midfielder Arthur Zwane missing from today’s game as he was away at his Grandmother's funeral. Ernst Middendorp will also be able to call on David Obua for next weeks final the Ugandan international was rested for Saturday's match.
