Spectators and players at the NMG Consultants and Actuaries, soccer tournament held for the residents of the Twilight Children’s home were given some respite from the Highveld winter this past Saturday.

As they stood cheering on the youngsters who hail from the Twilight Children’s home, which is located in Hillbrow in Johannesburg, amongst those on the sidelines were Kaizer Chiefs defenders Fabian McCarthy and Patrick Mayo. The arrival of Amakhosi players at the event sprung the kids into life as they began to play with a spring in the step and went all out to impress the onlooking Chiefs duo.

Fabian McCarthy a firm believer in helping to grow and develop young talent in less privileged areas, as he runs a host of projects in his home town of Vryburg in the North West Province, was overwhelmed by the appreciation shown by the kids out of his and Patrick Mayo’s attendance at the event.

McCarthy said “from the time I got to the field, I only heard good words and congratulatory things about myself and Chiefs in general, these kids might not have a lot to look forward to every day but even if I can contribute to their happiness for one day - I am happy”.

McCarthy’s fellow defender Patrick Mayo who was in attendance with him at the event added the following “ I have two young sons myself and I try to give them every opportunity to use sport to advance their lives and being able to give the Twilight Kids something to build on is very rewarding”.

The Chiefs pair handed out autograph cards and posed for a dozen odd photographs and their appearance at the event was appreciated by NMG representative Lawrence Hllophe who said “ NMG would like to thank Kaizer Chiefs team for the wonderful support on Saturday.

The event was a great success and the little guys from Twilight Children were thrilled and encouraged by the presence of Fabian McCarthy and Patrick Mayo”.
