Amakhosi make light of rain

With the city of Johannesburg being drenched in flood like conditions, over the past week with the heavens opening up and handing out a summer cleaning over much of the city and its surroundings.

Chiefs have not been spared and had to cancel training earlier in the week as the training grounds at Naturena became unusable as a result of the rain.

On Thursday morning some of the Amakhosi players decided to make the best out of the gloomy weather, as goalkeepers Rowen Fernandez and Tladi Mathibe, tired of being the only ones to get mud all over, decided to send Gert Schalkwyk for an early shower as they pounced upon an unsuspecting Schalkwyk after training on Thursday and dragged him through him through the mud. Much to the amusement of coach Ernst Middendorp and the rest of the team who could not contain themselves with the entertainment on show.

Commenting on the playful banter assistant coach Frank Eullberg said; "this demonstrates good nice camaraderie, Gert is a good sport as he took the whole incident in a good manner, this is the kind of thing you need to break the routine and it shows the good spirit within the team."

After his impromptu shower Gert Schalkwyk made his way rather quickly to the change room where he had the opportunity of taking a shower with hot water and all the other necessities. One person not impressed by the player’s antics was kit manager Mingi Motaung who gave Gert a stare down of note as he handed in his training kit, for the necessary cleaning to take place.
