Amid all the fan fare of sky divers jumping into the stadium and famous Kwaito artist Mandoza performing prior to kick off one would have found it hard to believe you were at a soccer stadium.

Amid all the fan fare and the carnival atmosphere inside the FNB Stadium the seasons first Chiefs Pirates match kicked off before 72 000 fans who turned the FNB Stadium into a cauldron of noise as the teams took to the field.

The Amakhosi looked angelic in a changed all white strip and were smiled upon from above when Thabo Mooki’s harmless looking looping corner was met at the back post by David Obua who struck to give the Amakhosi a dream lead after just four minutes.

Both coaches promised goals in today’s encounter and from the way both teams played in the first half their intentions are clear.

Chiefs will be happy with things as they stand but will be looking to increase their lead early on in the second half and consolidate their position in the game.
