Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the signing of Zambian international striker Rotson Kilambe, who had been on trial with The Amakhosi for the past week on Friday afternoon.

Kilambe who played an integral part along with another new Chiefs signing Siyabonga Nkosi last season when Bloemfontein Celtic won the 2005 SAA Supa8, put pen to paper on a two year contract with Chiefs. The deal which was concluded on Friday will see the twenty seven year old former Mamelodi Sundowns striker spend the next two seasons with Chiefs as the deal he has signed concludes at the end of the 2007 – 2008 season.

Bobby Motaung, The Amakhosi team manager commenting after the conclusion of the deal with Kilambe on Friday said “the coach gave us the go ahead to conclude a deal with Rotson after he had impressed during his five day trial which began on Monday”.

Motaung further added “the technical team are working with him on his fitness as he had been inactive for a while, furthermore we are still awaiting his work permit which we are expecting to come through shortly. Rotson Kilambe is the latest addition to the Kaizer Chiefs squad for the 2006-07 season”.

According to Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp Kilambe was the missing piece in his puzzle, with Rotson on board he has completed his purchases for the upcoming season, “throughout this past week, we have had Rotson training with us and he has really made an impression on the technical team with his hard work and professional demeanour”.

The Amakhosi coach furthermore believes that Kilambe’s addition to the team will go a long way towards solving Chiefs goal scoring woes adding “Rotson is a fighter and he does not pull out of going in for tackles with defenders and I am confident that he will link up well with Shaun Bartlett up front and help get us the goals we need to win games and ultimately the league. At this point I would like to welcome him to the Chiefs family and wish him all the best”.

Kilambe will watch Chiefs opening game of the 2006 – 2007 season against SuperSport United this Sunday from the stands. It is almost guaranteed that he will be itching to get into the action. Kilambe’s eye for goal and his strong physical presence in the opposition penalty area will count heavily in Chiefs favour as The Amakhosi have now have sufficient firepower to lay assault on a third PSL Crown.
