Kaizer Chiefs Reserves came from behind to record a satisfying 2-1 victory over Chippa United Reserves on Sunday, despite being reduced to 10-men while still trailing.
The situation looked bleak at halftime, with Chiefs a goal behind and down a player after Vicky Mkhawana was sent off in first half stoppage time.
The Glamour Boys showed tremendous courage and application to turn the tide in their favour with a couple of well-taken goals in the second period, first through substitute, Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, in the 62nd minute, to level the scores, and then a winner from Pheko Phago, to make it two goals in two games for him.
The win sees Amakhosi sit joint-top of the 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) league table, along with Mamelodi Sundowns, as the only two teams with 100% records after two rounds.
Meanwhile, in the SAFA Gauteng Development League (GDL), Kaizer Chiefs made a clean sweep of the School of Excellence in Elandsfontein on Saturday. The U13s got the day off to a great start by winning 3-0. The U17s followed up with a 1-0 win and the U19s prevailed by 2-1. On Sunday, as part of the U15s Festival, Kaizer Chiefs emerged with a 2-1 to complete a very successful weekend for the Club’s academy.
Next Saturday, Chiefs host Sekhukhune United at FNB stadium in Round 3 of the DDC campaign, kicking off at 10:00, while in the GDL, Amakhosi play host to RESA U15s, U17s and U19s at the Village, with the U13s playing their tie on Sunday in the U13s Festival at a venue still to be confirmed.
