When pre-season training commences on the 26th June for Chiefs, Amakhosi will do so with a new goalkeeper coach as Mannfred Engelmann has tendered his resignation as he is unable to continue his duties with Chiefs.

Mannfred joined up with Chiefs in January after Amakhosi opted to hire a full time goalkeeper coach after parting ways with Rainer Dinkelacker who had been working with Chiefs in a part time capacity over the past couple of seasons.

Engelmann who is originally from Germany has been living in South Africa since the early 1990’s has said that although he would have liked to continue with his post at Chiefs, he could not carry on.

Mannfred who has a number of business interests in Cape Town along with his family living in the mother city, has been torn between being in Johannesburg with Chiefs, as well as taking care of his personal matters in Cape Town.

Commenting on Mannfred’s departure Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp said “he indicated to me that he needed to leave as he needed to focus his attention on his other business, we have to respect that and so we have allowed him to go.

He has worked well with our keepers since he came on board in January and we have told him that we would like to continue using him in some sort of consultancy role”.

A solemn looking Engelmann told www.kaizerchiefs.com after Chiefs defeat to Cosmos at the weekend “I am not happy to be leaving Chiefs as I have enjoyed working here; unfortunately I have other issues I need to take care of.

I have had a discussion with the coach and he told me that he will be happy for me to continue working with the team in some way or the other”.

Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has stated that the club will look to recruit a new coach to work with their goalkeepers before The Amakhosi begin pre season training towards the end of June.
