Amakhosi cruising in the Cape
Amakhosi cruising in the Cape

Patrick Mayo possibly had the most amazing minute in his Kaizer Chiefs career as the Amakhosi defender cleared a goal bound shot from Santos striker Carlo Scott off the line after he had beaten Rowen Fernandez with a deft chip on the stroke of halftime.

Chiefs counter-attacked immediately and won a corner from which Mayo scored. The tall left-back charged at the ball unmarked and with Brenda Wardle coming off his line Mayo headed his team into the lead.

Chiefs took the lead on 25 minutes when Louis Agyemang miskicked his attempt at goal. Gert Schalkwyk reacted quickest and beat the Santos defence to neatly place the ball past Wardle.

Immediately after scoring - Chiefs did what they have done on a number of occasions this season - that is concede a goal immediately after taking the lead. A mix up between Fernandez and his defence saw the Chiefs net minder knock the ball down to Carlo Scott who needed no second invitation to knock the ball into the empty net.

Chiefs regained their composure and got back ahead after Patrick Mayo cleared a Carlo Scott shot off the line and set up a counter attack from which he gave Chiefs the lead going into halftime.
