Following South African musician Tyla's recent triumph at the Grammy Awards on Monday morning, we hope that her success brings a renewed sense of inspiration to Bafana Bafana when they face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the semi-finals of the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. 22-year-old Tyla won her first Grammy award ahead of some notable Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, Ayra Starr and Davido, who were all nominated in the Best African Performance category at this year’s Grammys. As Kaizer Chiefs, we extend our hearty congratulations to Tyla on her achievement for the smash hit, Water.
We once again wish our senior men’s national team, Bafana Bafana, the best of luck and encourage them to channel Tyla's winning spirit when they take on the West Africans. We reaffirm our total support for Bafana Bafana as they prepare for a massive task with the ultimate mission of emulating the class of 1996 that claimed Africa’s coveted trophy on home soil.
The historical rivalry between these two sides adds an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming match. Bafana Bafana will be looking to avenge their 2-1 loss to Nigeria in the 2019 Afcon quarterfinal match in Egypt.
We applaud the team for their outstanding performance in the tournament so far and encourage them to carry on with the same determination and excellence. The entire nation is behind you, and we believe that you have what it takes to emerge victorious. Let the spirit of perseverance and unity propel you towards triumph!
We stand united in support of our national team and hope for a memorable victory.
Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles lock horns on Wednesday at Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, Ivory Coast. Kick-off is at 19:00 (SA time).
