Kaizer Chiefs won a record extending 14th Nedbank Cup Title last season, defeating Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the final on 10 May 2025, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Gaston Sirino and Yusuf Maart scored for Chiefs either side of Evidence Makgopa’s equaliser.

Chiefs will be facing Stellenbosch in a cup match for the sixth time overall. They have already met this season in the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup Round of 16, which ended 0-0 after extra-time, with Stellenbosch winning on penalties.

Chiefs and Stellenbosch are meeting in the Nedbank Cup for a fourth time. Amakhosi have won all three previous meetings, 3-0 in the Round of 32 in 2016/17 and 2-1in the Round of 16 in 2017/18, when Stellenbosch were campaigning outside of the top- flight. Their most recent Nedbank Cup meeting was in last season’s quarterfinal, which Chiefs won 3-1.

The sides also met in the 2022/23 MTN8 quarterfinals, where a 1-1 draw after extra time was followed by a win for Chiefs on penalties.

This is the sixth cup meeting between Stellenbosch and Chiefs and the fifth to be hosted by Stellenbosch.

In all competitions, Chiefs have never lost in regulation play, winning four of these games and drawing one.

In addition to their Carling Black Label Knockout Cup meeting this campaign, Chiefs beat Stellies 2-0 in Cape Town in the opening match of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.


Chiefs’ Recent Form: 

Chiefs have won their last four games in all competitions all by 1-0. Amakhosi are undefeated in their last seven games; three draws have been followed by four wins.

Chiefs have won four games in a row 1-0 for the first time since the 2014-15 season, in that run they won the MTN8 Final on 20th September against Pirates, a league game and Knockout Cup games against Maritzburg at home on the 27th September and 4th October and then won a league game away against Ajax Cape Town on the 19th October all games were in 2014.

Prior to defeating Pirates in the 2014 MTN8 final Chiefs won a league game 2-1 at home on 13th September 2014 against University of Pretoria which was the last time Amakhosi won five games in a row by a single goal.


The other occasion in the PSL Era when Chiefs won four games in a row 1-0 was in 2003-04, they won successive league games against Ajax Cape Town at home and Hellenic away on the 21st September and 28th September, then won a Coca Cola Cup Round of 16 game against Santos on 4th October, a league game against Cosmos on the 25th October. Chiefs won a 5th successive game by a single goal in the run defeating Ajax Cape Town 3-2 in a Coca Cola Cup Quarterfinal game on the 1st November 2003.


Chiefs have kept clean sheets in their last 6 games in all competitions and have gone 626 minutes without conceding a goal.

Chiefs come into this game after a 1-0 home win over ZESCO United in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup on 1 February.

This game is Chiefs’ 25th of the current season. Amakhosi have played 15 Betway Premiership league games, one in the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup and eight in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

Chiefs have managed to keep 15 clean-sheets in their 24 games in all competitions in 2025/26.

Glody Lilepo has scored in Chiefs’ last two games in all competitions, taking his tally for the season to five goals.


Chiefs Round of 32 record in PSL era 

Kaizer Chiefs have played in the Round of 32 of the Nedbank Cup in its various guises, 28 times in the PSL era.

Kaizer Chiefs’ record in their previous 28 Round of 32 games in the PSL Era reads W23 L5.

Of Chiefs 23 victories in the Round of 32 in the Nedbank Cup in the PSL Era, 20 have been won in regulation time and three have required extra-time. None have been decided on penalties. Of their five losses, two have come by way of penalties. Chiefs have failed to score in just four of their 28 Round of 32 matches.

Last season Chiefs began their run to a 14th Nedbank Cup title with a 4-0 win over lower division Free Agents at home.

When facing PSL opponents in their opening game of the Nedbank Cup in the Round of 32 Chiefs record since 1996/97 reads P12 W9 L3.

Chiefs have won nine of their previous 12 clashes against PSL opponents in the Round of 32 since 1996/97, their only losses coming against Golden Arrows on penalties in 2006/07, Orlando Pirates in 2015/16 and in 2021/22 to TS Galaxy.

Chiefs begin a Nedbank Cup campaign against top- flight opponents for the first time since 2022/23 when the won 2-0 after extra time against Maritzburg United.

Prior to Chiefs’ defeat to Richards Bay in the last 32 in 2020/21 Amakhosi had won four successive Nedbank Cup Round of 32 games.

Chiefs’ biggest win in their opening game of a Nedbank Cup campaign since 1996/97 was a 7-0 triumph over Nelspruit Black Swallows in 1998/99.

Since 1996/97, Chiefs have scored four goals or more on five occasions in their opening round of the competition, 7-1 over Boksburg United in 1996/97, 7-0 over Nelspruit Black Swallows in 1998/99, 5-0 over FC Sporting in 2002/03 and 4-0 over Edu Sports and Free Agents in 2014/15 and 2024/25 respectively.

Since 1996/97. Chiefs have opened up a Nedbank Cup away from home 12 times, winning 11 of these clashes, with one loss.

Since 1996/97 as defending Nedbank Cup champions, Chiefs have begun with a win twice, both against Black Leopards, in 2000/01 and 2013/14. Their only Round of 32 elimination as defending champions in PSL era was in 2006/07 against Golden Arrows.


Kaizer Chiefs and Nedbank Cup 

Kaizer Chiefs were the first ever winners of the Nedbank Cup in 1971 when it was known as the Life Challenge Cup.

Kaizer Chiefs’ first ever Nedbank Cup last 32 game was a 10-0 win over Brakpan Rovers on 2 October 1971. That year Kaizer Chiefs defeated archrivals Orlando Pirates in a replayed final of the competition, winning 2-1 after the first game ended 2-2, win their first silverware in a regular season.

In that campaign, the late Pule ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengoe scored nine goals, including five in the 10-0 win over Brakpan Rovers to finish as the team’s top scorer en route to lifting the title.

Kaizer Chiefs are the most successful team in the Nedbank Cup, having been to 20 finals.

Kaizer Chiefs are 14 times Nedbank Cup winners, having won the title in 1971, 1972, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1992, 2000, 2006, 2013 and 2025.

They have been runners-up a further six times, in the Nedbank Cup in 1975, 1978, 1988, 1993, 1999 and 2019.

Last season, Kaizer Chiefs won all five of their games in the Nedbank Cup in regulation time. Of their three PSL era Nedbank Cup titles, this was the first time they had won all five games in 90 minutes.

Chiefs Nedbank Cup triumph last season saw them win the title with semifinal and final wins over Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates respectively for the second time, along with 2005/06.
