Chiefs played out a goalless draw in their Absa Premiership clash with Platinum Stars on Saturday night at the Rand Stadium.

Knowledge Musona had two great chances to have found a breakthrough but a combination of both the Stars' keeper Siyabonga Mpontshane and the post got together to stop him from finding that elusive goal for Chiefs.

The Amakhosi started the game brightly and created the first goal scoring chance of the game. Thomas Sweswe sent a long ball forward, Sthembiso Ngcobo rose up and flicked the ball onto the head of Sambu and it fell into the path of Musona, who brushed aside Mabizela and shot for goal, Mpontshane managed to block the ball it flew up and Ngcobo made contact with his head but his effort was off target, this sequence of events took place in the 6th minute.

When Dominic Isaacs fouled Nyanda on the right in the 21st minute Stars were awarded a free kick which Thsuo Phala floated in and found the head of Spencer at the far post, his header back across goal was kicked away by Sweswe.

Chiefs launched a counterattack and Letsholonyane was able to find Masango with a ball along the ground, but the midfielder instead of squaring the ball towards Musona hit it to close towards Mpontshane who easily collected the ball.

Soon after Stars defender Thebakang came rushing to clear the ball from the feet of Ngcobo who had lined up a shot while he was stationed inside the Stars 18 yard area, again it took some good work from Letsholonyane to place Ngcobo in a good scoring position.

At the half way point of the first half chiefs goalkeeper Khune made a brave save at the feet of Mandaza who was able to ghost in ahead of Isaacs as he made contact with Mpangase’s cross from the right.

Stars had the final chance of the first half again Mandaza was in the thick of the action and was able to meet a corner from the right with a powerful header which looked destined for the back of the net, but Musona rescued Chiefs as he headed the ball off the line.

The second fourty five minutes were contested at a much slower pace despite showing some good attacking intentions in the closing stages of the first half Stars went into a shell and were opted a very defensive strategy.

Chiefs chances in the second half saw Isaacs able to get onto the end of a free kick from Yende in the 74th Minute, but he could not get the ball past Mpontshane. Soon after that Musona made contact with Dladla’s well taken corner from the left but his header went agonizingly close to the target.

Musona came closest to finding the back of the net with a well executed free kick in the 82nd minute which he was able to send round the Stars defensive wall from around 20 yards from goal, the ball hit the left hand post of Mpontshane and went out for a goal kick.

Three minutes from time Mpontshane made a save off Kaizer Motuang Juniors effort at goal from the left, to ensure that the game finished at 0-0.
