A very different looking Kaizer Chiefs team will be taking the field to face Mvela Golden League team City Pillars of Polokwane in an ABSA Cup last sixteen match at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening. Ernst Middendorp has made sweeping changes to the squad of 18 from the one that did duty against Swallows and Santos, albeit some of the changes have been forced due to suspensions, injuries and some players missing as they are taking care of personal matters.

Chiefs have four changes to their starting eleven. Defenders Fabian McCarthy and Jimmy Tau vacate the scene. McCarthy is out with a bout of flu and Jimmy Tau is serving a one match suspension after receiving his sixth yellow card of the season against Moroka Swallows a week ago. In comes Patrick Mabedi marking a return to the Chiefs starting eleven after a six month absence. His last appearance for Chiefs was in the Amakhosi’s 4-2 defeat against Silver Stars in October.

Kaizer Motaung Junior makes his first start upfront in almost two seasons - be partnering Louis Agyemang. The pair will be supported by experienced midfielder Shoes Moshoeu. Moshoeu who will be making his 100th Start for Chiefs against Pillars looks set to play behind the front two. The best news for Kaizer Chiefs fans prior to kickoff has been the sight of Ivorian striker Serge Djiehoua who will start from the substitute’s bench, as he returns from a lengthy injury. Djiehoua’s last game for Chiefs was against Jomo Cosmos in September last year - a game he scored in.
