The 2010-11 Absa Premiership season kicked of on Friday evening and tonight (Saturday) it will be the turn of Kaizer Chiefs to start their quest for a third Premier Soccer League title when they play host to Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg.

Kick off for the game is at 20h15.

Chiefs and Arrows first came first to face during the 2000 – 2001 season which was the Durban-based outfit first inaugural season in the top flight of South African Football, and it was Arrows who stunned the Amakhosi 3-1.

For the first five seasons that Arrows were in the PSL they seemed to be a real bogey team for Chiefs. However that all changed in the 2005 – 2006 season when The Amakhosi were able for the first time to defeat Arrows home and away in a single campaign.

Since then Chiefs have generally held the upper hand over Arrows and in the last ten league encounters between the clubs Chiefs have won eight of these while Arrows have won one and the other has been a draw.

True to Chiefs recent good run against Arrows has been the fact that in the last five league games between the sides going back to the 2007 – 2008 season Arrows have not scored against the Amakhosi.

With the coming of the new season Arrows have gone through a number of changes with Manqoba Mngqithi leaving his post as coach, to be replaced by the Montenegro-born Zoran Filipovic who knows Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic.

Arrows have lost some key players in the off-season but have added the former Chiefs midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi to their ranks, while The Amakhosi who have had a successful pre-season, will be hoping to continue from their 1-0 MTN 8 Quarter Final win over Bloemfontein Celtic from a week ago.

In the corresponding fixture last season Chiefs won an exciting encounter against Arrows 2-0 at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Kaizer Motaung Junior’s second goal for Chiefs that evening was also the club's 600th goal in the PSL.

The Amakhosi will no doubt be hoping for a repeat of that result.
