A month in which once they have fulfilled this weekend’s fixture against The Urban Warriors would have played a mammoth five league games, which was a game more than their next busiest month this season in December when the Amakhosi had four league engagements. They went through the final month of last year undefeated as they managed to win three and drew just one of their four games in December.
The final four months of the season from February to May will see Chiefs have no such fixture congestion in league games as they did in January, and are scheduled to play a maximum of four games a month between February and May. Between February - May Chiefs will have 13 league games to play out for the season, and will play three games a month in February, March and April and will be in league action twice during the final month of the season in May.
Chiefs could add a further four games to their roster for the season depending on how far the team progresses in the defence of their ABSA Cup crown, the tournament scheduled to start on the 24th February. With Chiefs scheduled to face Mamelodi Sundowns, Golden Arrows and Bidvest Wits in league matches during February, they will have a fourth game in the month in the form of an ABSA Cup Round of 32 tie.
Progressing beyond the round of 32 in the Cup and all the way to the final will mean that Chiefs will give Chiefs fans the opportunity to see their team in action for an additional game in March and April and two more games in May as the ABSA Cup Semi Final and Final matches, are due to be played on the 5th and 26th May respectively.
Having played more games then most of the other teams in the PSL, see Chiefs in advantageous position as they have ample recovery time between games, which could ensure that Chiefs run in to the season could be more like a leisurely stroll.
For the meantime though The Amakhosi will have to contend with a change in venue for their scheduled meeting on the 10th February against Lamontville Golden Arrows. It was against Arrows back in October that Chiefs registered their first three points of the season when goals from Siyabonga Nkosi and Derrick Spencer guided Chiefs to a 2-1 victory over Arrows in Chatsworth.
Chiefs game against the side from Kwa Zulu Natal has had a change in venue and has been shifted across the North West Province from the Olimpia Park Stadium in Rustenburg, to the Ernst Oppenheimer Stadium in Orkney the same venue where Jomo Cosmos recently hosted Chiefs in a PSL game. Due to the fact that the Olimpia Park Stadium was unavailable, and Chiefs needed to find and alternated venue to host Arrows, Orkney turned out to be the most suitable venue for the game to be moved to.
