Valery Nahayo might have been one of the stand out performers for Chiefs when they defeated league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday afternoon in a tightly contested Absa Premiership match.

The towering Burundian international defender insists that he and his Amakhosi teammates will not be getting carried away with the victory over Sundowns which has helped them cut the log leaders gap over them to a single point.

“For us it is only about looking forward now, the win over Sundowns is history we did what we had to and we won the game.

We have another difficult game against Ajax and it is important that we treat it with the same kind of importance that we gave the last game.”

While Nahayo does not want to dwell much on the win over Sundowns he was pleased with his efforts during the game. “It is always wonderful to get recognised for ones performance especially after a big game like that, given that I did not feature in the last two games of last year I was happy to have got a chance to start and help the team win such a crucial game.”

The combative defender has vowed to take the positives gained from the victory over Sundowns into the next game with him. “It is highly motivational to do well against a good team like Sundowns and it helps develop a positive atmosphere in the team as a whole we need to use that to our advantage.”

According to Nahayo Chiefs have had to do a lot of soul searching to find themselves close to the summit of the league table and they cannot afford to lose focus of their target at what is a very crucial point of the season.

“There have been some very testing times for us recently and it was hard for us to get to where we are in the league, the atmosphere right now surrounding the team is good the fans are happy and we want to win something.

We have to do everything like we always have to make sure that we carry on progressing in the right direction, and do not wipe away the good work that the team has done until now.”
