Kaizer Chiefs suffered their fourth defeat of the season when they lost by 1-0 in a highly charged Absa Premiership clash played in front of 38 000 vociferous fans at the impressive Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.

The Glamour Boys, looking at registering their fourth straight win this season made only two changes to the team that beat Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium last weekend. Thomas Sweswe replaced Valery Nahayo while Mthokozisi Yende replaced Siphiwe Tshabalala.

It was Ajax Cape Town though who attacked first when Khama Billiant spotted goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune off the line inside the 10th minute and tried to lob him but the Chiefs stopper pulled a superb save denying the youngster.

Two minutes earlier, Itumeleng Khune had been forced to make another save to deny Thulani Serero who found a space to shoot just outside 18-area.

Chiefs not to be outdone came close to grabbing the first goal of the match in the 13th minute when Knowledge Musona’s shot went agonisingly wide following a superb combination between a livewire, Mthokozisi Yende and Josta Dladla.

Chiefs continued to press the hosts and in the 42nd minute, Motaung Jr. brought a smart reflex stop out of Hans Vonk when he did well to control Knowledge Musona’s cross inside the 18-area box. It was goalless at half time.

In the 50th minute, Brent Carelse’s free kick just outside 18-area box went just wide of IKhune’s goals.

Two minutes later, the hosts were awarded a penalty by Buyile Gqubule when he judged Tinashe Nengomasha to have brought down Serero inside the box. Brent Carelse made no mistake from the spot kick, 1-0 to Ajax Cape Town.

Chiefs never dropped their heads and continued attacking with Kaizer Motaung Jrs’ volley going just wide following a piece of good work from Mandla Masango.

Ajax Cape Town should have extended their lead in the 72nd minute when Khama Billiat scooped his shot following good work from hard running George Maluleke.

In the 78th minute substitute, Sthembiso Ngcobo made his presence felt when he called Hans Vonk to duty forcing a corner kick as the Glamour Boys desperately searched for an equaliser.

The night though belonged to Ajax Cape Town as they managed to secure a second win in a row since Christmas break.

Kaizer Chiefs will have an opportunity to redeem themselves when they welcome AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on Wednesday. Kick off is at 19h30.
