Cyril Nzama Kaizer Chiefs regular captain in Chief was in the stands on Sunday as he watched his teammates come from behind to defeat Silver Stars 2-1, the victory went some way in wiping out the defeat inflicted upon Chiefs by Stars earlier in the campaign.

Nzama was ruled out of Sunday’s game as he had picked up his third yellow card of the season a week earlier, when Chiefs defeated Black Leopards in the ABSA Cup ¼ Finals. The performance and character of the team in general impressed Nzama as Chiefs rallied from a goal down early on to eventually winning the game 2-1. He was particularly impressed by the performance of stand-in captain Fabian McCarthy, who was shouldered with the responsibility of captaining the team against Stars.

Nzama said of the stand in captain “ Fabian played a quality game on Sunday. He was under a lot of pressure taking into account the fact that he got sent off the last time we met them. I think he fitted into the role of captain like a natural born leader and being captain did not put any extra pressure as he was able to play his usual disciplined game”.

McCarthy, who was the provider for Chiefs equalizer when he sent in a pin point cross from just past half the way line for Patrick Mayo to score, was happy with his performance and the respect shown to him by his teammates. As Fabian explains “ all the guys rallied around me and whenever I gave out instructions the guys obliged and that really made my task easy”. The star defender was content with Chiefs victory as he played a part in the first goal and also kept the defence together with some crucial tackles.

Cyril Nzama will be available for selection after serving the ban imposed on him, when Chiefs take on Sundowns on Saturday in the semifinal of the ABSA Cup. Also making a comeback to the squad will be defender Derrick Spencer who sat out Sunday’s game as he too was serving a one-match suspension.
