The Kaizer Chiefs Legends will participate in the 4th annual Clash of Legends tournament at the National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana on 20 June.
Amakhosi’s legends, their Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates Legends, and the legends teams of local clubs, Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs, will feature in the one-day extravaganza. The tournament will see four games played on the day, comprising of two semifinals, a third-place play-off and the final.
Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, welcomed the invitation for the team to feature in Gaborone, saying, “We always look for new opportunities for our club to interact with our fans. This tournament provides that and we are pleased to be participating amongst a strong field. Hopefully, the fans will get to see a Soweto Derby in Botswana.”
The Clash of Legends project coordinator, Sekhana Lawrence Koko, is looking ahead with excitement as the tournament takes on a new look. “This year, Clash of Legends takes a new and exciting direction,” he reveals, “For the first time, we transition from national team legends to club football legends, a move that reflects the deep-rooted rivalries, memories and emotions that club football has created over generations across Southern Africa.”
Amakhosi Legends coach, Thabo Mooki, is relishing the chance to lead the team outside the country. “We have played many games around South Africa, yet this is my first with the team in Botswana. We are hoping to connect with the fans there and, importantly, to win the competition,” he says, adding, “We have Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who coaches in Botswana, and he will give us some insight into our opponents.”
The first game will kick-off in the morning at 10:00, with the second semifinal taking place at 12:00, the third-place game at 16:00 and the final at 18:00.
Ticket prices (in Pula) for the whole day, including all four matches, have been structured to ensure accessibility and affordability for supporters at P100 for Grand Stand, P70 for Panda, and P50 for North & South Stand tickets.
The fixtures will be made available once organisers have concluded the draw.
